SESSIONS Oct · Nov · Dec
TIME 1:00 – 2:30pm EST on Zoom
APPLY BY September 14
Pay in full, or in three monthly payments. We encourage churches and judicatories to sponsor clergy participation.
Books written by spiritual leaders at the margins are precisely what the world needs to hear most.
Ministry from the Margins Books publishes books written by queer, BIPOC, women, and/or disabled spiritual leaders. Because feminist, queer, disabled, and BIPOC spiritual leaders are wildly underrepresented in ministerial books,
Tehom Center Publishing partners with churches, denominations, judicatories, and regional bodies to sponsor up to 20 clergy-authors for publication in each cohort.
Whether it's a book of sermons, a ministerial memoir, a guided journal, or a book about a particular facet of ministry, publishing a book enhances a minister's reach and credibility — and functions as a tool to expand their ministry to the wider community. Participating clergy-authors receive a contract with Tehom Center Publishing or one of our partner presses, plus three-part coaching in book writing, book marketing, and authorpreneurship.
Who This Is For
While spiritual leaders are welcome to pay, we don't want clergy to be responsible for this cost.
We encourage churches, denominations, and judicatory bodies to sponsor participation using any combination of discretionary funding, continuing education funds, special offerings, donors, or collaboration funds — to celebrate and honor marginalized ministers with a special message to share with the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions our cohort applicants ask most often, answered plainly.

-
Any spiritual leader — ordained or lay — who identifies as any of the following: feminist, queer, BIPOC, a woman, nonbinary, disabled. These perspectives are tremendously underrepresented in ministerial books. In fact, LGBTQIA+ writers only represent 16% of published authors and BIPOC writers only represent 11%. Tehom Center Publishing wants to change this.
-
Ensure your church, denomination, regional body, judicatory, self, or some combination will sponsor the $1,950 coaching fee. Then fill out the registration form, which is automatically sent to you once you share your email address.
-
Participating spiritual leaders can write any non-fiction book — including, but not limited to, a book of sermons, a ministerial memoir, creative non-fiction about a particular topic within ministry, a curriculum, a book of poetry, or a book of essays.
-
All cohorts meet once per month from 1–2:30pm EST on the indicated dates.
Fall Cohort: register by October (meets monthly Oct–Dec).
Spring Cohort: register by late April (meets monthly April–June). -
A publishing contract with Tehom Center Publishing or one of our partner presses, plus three monthly group coaching sessions in three areas: book writing, book marketing, and authorpreneurship. Authors also get access to a private Facebook group just for TCP authors and clients, and access to future cohort coaching sessions for refreshers — if you're in one cohort but need a marketing refresher later, you're welcome to join that session.
All TCP authors also receive full book formatting (interior and exterior design), 20% author royalties (double industry standard), 5 free copies of their book, and their books available for sale on our website, Amazon.com, and BarnesandNoble.com.
-
TCP sends you a simple form to pay, and you can choose to pay in full or in 3 monthly installments.
Past participants have funded participation by requesting full or partial sponsorship from a bishop, regional minister, synod, denomination, church, or combination of churches; using continuing education funds; church fundraisers; asking individual donors; crowdfunding; utilizing non-profit, business, or chaplaincy funds; self-paying; and combinations of all these options.
-
No, absolutely not. While many of our participants are ordained in Christian traditions, we also have non-Christian Unitarian Universalists, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Pagans, and a variety of other belief systems and spiritual traditions present.
-
No. The program is open to people who experience marginality in a variety of ways, though most participants are some combination of queer, BIPOC, disabled, women, or nonbinary.
-
This is a tremendous part of the book writing coaching process. Believe it or not, it's incredibly doable using the methods Rev. Dr. Angela Yarber coaches — much of the book will draw upon things ministers have already written.
While there is a recommended 6-month timeline, no participant is bound to it. Each participant is coached on how to create a doable writing schedule that won't detract from current ministry or family life.
